Hodgkinson achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the global championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
